Join us at dev://east and prepare to start your engines!
We’re extremely proud to be one of the sponsors of this year’s fantastic dev://east developer conference, which is taking place at Ipswich Corn Exchange on March 15.
Now in its second year, dev://east highlights the very best the East of England has to offer in the fields of technology and science. In the words of dev://east’s co-founder and organiser Emily-Jayne Crittenden, “The inspiration behind dev://east is to bring people together across the entirety of the East of England to celebrate all the different types of technology we do – not just software development but engineering, science, anything that creates a product or service that helps somebody along the way – and to showcase that alongside some of the most amazing technologists in the world.
“But, more than anything, the real aim and objective is to be a community, to have fun and make friends that are real friends – which is important, particularly with collaboration. We also want dev://east to be inspirational and accessible for everybody. It’s not just for techies, it’s also for people who are interested in being techies or who are scared of techies and want to know more about what techies actually do!”
Those are the kinds of objectives Spicule wholeheartedly supports. As a business that works with open source software and is dedicated to the open source ethos of giving back to the community, we share very similar values to dev://east and believe we should all do as much as possible to encourage, nurture and applaud the incredible technological talent our region has to offer. Although we are fortunate enough to work with some amazing clients in other parts of the world, the East of England is still key to driving us forwards. Also, when our founder Tom Barber held a talk at last year’s inaugural dev://east event we were astounded by the quality of the conference and the sheer numbers that Emily and her team managed to attract. When we found out that dev://east was coming back this year with plans to be even bigger and better, we were keen to get involved.
Luckily, Emily-Jayne felt the same way. “One of my biggest ‘wins’ from last year’s event was when somebody heard Tom’s talk and said, ‘Wow, I never imagined I’d come to see a speaker who works for NASA and lives in the East of England!’ Spicule prove it is possible to have calibre and prestige and still stay where you want to live. They represent the inspirational journey. If you want to do something, make your mind up, make the decision, and start taking the steps. We’re delighted Spicule are back for dev://east 2019.”
We’re delighted too, and this year we’ve got something pretty special up our sleeve. Not only is Tom presenting two talks during the day (his main talk is about ‘Packaging your Application for the IoT Era’) we’re also inviting people to visit our stand and take part in a Formula One driving competition! Don’t worry – even though you’ll be behind the wheel you won’t be leaving the building because the competition is actually a very cool way for us to demonstrate the live streaming data platform we’re currently developing and introduce dev://east’s attendees to some of the Apache open-source technology we use. As our visitors race each other in a time trial around the track, our big screen will show live car telemetry and demonstrate how real-time analytics give a sub-second by sub-second view of all the big data being extracted from the game. If harnessing the power of big data is key to your business, it’s a demonstration you won’t want to miss. Plus, there will be prizes for the speediest competitors!
Of course, that’s not all we’ll be doing or talking about but you’ll have to come and see us to find out the rest! It’s going to be a terrific day and there’ll be a whole host of other great keynote speakers and sponsors in attendance – check out the website for more details (https://deveast.uk/) and to book your tickets. Oh, and Emily-Jayne has asked us to add that if anyone would like to speak at next year’s dev://east event, have a venue they’d like dev://east to use, or come onboard as a sponsor, she’d love to talk to you. Emily-Jayne can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Come to dev://east and find out how Spicule’s big data management tools can put your business in pole position. We’re looking forward to meeting you there!
